3 Common Remedies for Morning Sickness

In early pregnancy, surrogate mothers tend to experience nausea, sometimes followed by vomiting. According to Pampers, roughly 50 to 70% of women experience nausea in the first trimester. This is what’s called morning sickness.

While it’s generally unwelcome, if you are experiencing morning sickness during your pregnancy it’s often an indication that you’re having a healthy pregnancy.

But morning sickness is still miserable to deal with. Fortunately, there are a few things surrogate mothers can do that should offer some relief.

Three Common Cures to Relieve Sickness

As common as morning sickness is, it is possible to relieve and sometimes even eliminate symptoms. Here are several common cures to help surrogate mothers manage sickness.

   1. Uncover Your Triggers

Morning sickness doesn’t happen in a vacuum. It’s quite likely that it’s being brought on by the scent of your shampoo or the thought of cooked pork. It could even be the pill you take first thing in the morning. Oftentimes, it doesn’t make sense, but it doesn’t have to. Even scents and tastes you used to enjoy could cause you to feel nauseous.

It could be something in your environment. Or it might be something you’re thinking about in the morning. Start a journal and begin tracking your thoughts and behaviors as well as the foods you eat and your environment. You should be able to find a common thread, and, when you do, you’ll be able to avoid the trigger.

    2. Eat More Frequently

Many pregnant women find that an empty stomach only enhances their feelings of nausea and sickness. If you can, try eating smaller meals more frequently throughout the day.

If you’re having a hard time keeping anything down, try bananas, rice, applesauce, or toast. These foods are easy to consume and are less likely to cause upset.

    3. Drink Lots of Water

Being dehydrated can be problematic at the best of times. For pregnant women, it can be outright dangerous, as it could result in complications during your pregnancy.

When you’re frequently experiencing morning sickness, you may find it challenging to stay hydrated, as your stomach may not be able to handle liquids. You can try carbonated beverages (with a bite of food), herbal teas, or even watermelon if you find these more tolerable.

Regardless, staying hydrated should be a high priority for you.

THE ULTIMATE MODERN FAMILY STORY: A Same-Sex Couple Finally Gets Their Son Via IVF

By |

Nowadays, many male same-sex couples in their 30s and 40s are keen on becoming parents. In one of the latest breakthroughs of the gay pride movement, more same-sex couples are now embracing gestational surrogacy to have a biological child.

A successful surrogacy story from a same-sex couple

A couple from New Zealand is a successful example. The dubbed Baby Daddies Christian Newman, 34, and his husband Mark Edwards, 35, who have been together for 10 years, got their son Francis via IVF (In vitro fertilization), in June 2018 and could finally experience the joys of parenthood.

The idea of having a baby sprang into their mind five years ago. For years, they thought it would be impossible to have a child of their own, but their desire for a baby made them committed to giving it a try. It was hard, indeed. After being told that they cannot by law to adopt a child, Christian and Mark determined to turn to gestational surrogacy. They spent more than three emotional years trying to fulfill their dream.

surrogacy story

The beginning of surrogacy: looking for a surrogate

In 2016, they launched “Baby Daddies Looking for Kiwi Surrogate” on social media to search for a surrogate. To their surprise, there were more than 30 candidates. “It was devastating, as we were so excited and surprised. So many people willing to carry our child,” said Christian. “We went through a few rounds of applicants to find a suitable surrogate and eventually we found one”. Aleisha Hart, a caring, generous paramedic. The couple was delighted with her.

As for the egg donor, Christian and Mark wanted someone who was close to their family. Therefore, they approached their sister-in-law Alisa Herrera Hayman, 26 years old. She eventually made the gracious decision to donate her eggs to help them.

Before they could really start the surrogacy journey, they had to understand the whole process by meeting with doctors, counselors, and lawyers, as well as signing all their paperwork.

The surrogate fell pregnant

After one successful round of IVF, Aleisha fell pregnant. IVF is a procedure in which eggs are taken from a woman’s ovary and combined with sperm outside the body to form embryos. The embryos are nurtured in the laboratory for a few days and then placed in a woman’s uterus.

A new life was born

When their baby Francis was born, the couple felt all the efforts were worth it. Christian expressed his feelings when he said, “I was speechless, which doesn’t happen often. I just kept giggling a super-nervous laugh. Then I got a bit teary and choked up. It was a feeling I have never had before”.  In the future, the couple said they will focus on bringing up their baby.  For those same-sex couples who are keen to become parents, Christian said: “If you are truly ready to give everything you have to someone else, and you are prepared to sacrifice a lot to make it happen, then go for it.”

“Everyone is entitled to their opinions. But you are entitled to have a family and you are entitled to be happy.”

SURROGATE MOTHERHOOD – A Surrogate Mother’s Real Story

By |

While it is an incredible gift to enable people to become parents by helping them create a family, becoming a surrogate is a big decision. To anyone who has not had any direct experience with it, surrogacy can be a completely alien concept. Who are these amazing women? What motivates some women to carry a child for another family for nine months? We decided to dig a little deeper to understand what drives a surrogate to carry for another family.

“What is it like when becoming a surrogate mother?”

The answer is different for each woman. But for most surrogates, their responses have a lot to do with the joy they get from helping another family. Most women who pursue surrogacy enjoy being pregnant — they love the glow of pregnancy, all of the baby’s kicks and flutters, and the anticipation of the journey. In many ways, becoming a surrogate pregnancy will likely feel like any of her previous pregnancies, complete with many of the same ups and downs.

Of course, the personal emotions that every woman feels throughout her surrogate pregnancy are unique and varied. Most surrogates describe the overall experience as rewarding because they can help someone start a family.

“How are the feelings different between carrying your own baby and carrying a surrogate baby?”

There are many steps for surrogacy, and there are complex emotions as well. Some prospective surrogates are concerned about potentially bonding with the baby they carry, but most surrogate mothers report that they do not experience the same feelings of attachment as they did with their own baby. In fact, many surrogates say they feel more connected with the intended parents, and they cannot wait to watch the intended parents meet their baby for the first time.

“The child is special. I am proud that I had the ability and spirit to bring that beautiful life into the world. I felt the same way I did with my own kids, but without the bond that comes with raising and nurturing them. But I’m in touch with the parents and get to watch her grow up,” one surrogate at Joy of Life said.

“What are the loveliest results of surrogacy?”

Surrogacy is fulfilling, for both the parents as well as the surrogate. For the parents, the feeling is a sense of completeness from a new family member. For the surrogate, the feeling is one of pride from having provided the parents with a baby. “This journey changed my life in so many positive ways. Aside from the financial gain that we are experiencing, we have been able to positively educate people on surrogacy and teach our children the act of giving. Being able to help give something to someone is a wonderful feeling.”

Top 5 Myths and facts about surrogacy

By |

At the beginning of this year, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West had their third baby through surrogate. The main reason for this choice was that Kim had too many complications during the last two pregnancies. Surrogacy, as a new option for couples with pregnancy problems, has become popular around the world. But there is still a lot of misunderstanding and a lot of myths on this topic.

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West

Here are the top five myths about egg donors, surrogate mothers, and surrogacy agencies, along with the facts of refuting these myths.

Myth 1: I will not be able to bond with my baby

Many intended parents are considering the emotional bond with their kids. This bond is extremely important to babies’ future growth. However, recent research says that the bonding is a result of subsequent nurturing instead of just carrying a pregnancy.

Also, intended parents can participate in every step of the surrogacy, and they wait at the hospital for the birth of the baby. Joy of Life provides a series of services that can help intended parents bond with the fetus even during the pregnancy.

Myth 2: A surrogate may want to get the custody of the child

This is one of the most common misunderstandings about surrogacy, since the public is not very familiar with the process. In fact, there is very little to fear.

It has been over 30 years since the surrogate industry sprang up in the United States. During this 30-year history, over 23,000 gestational surrogate births occurred through reliable and legal surrogacy agencies. However, only 26 surrogate mothers changed their minds and wanted to keep the babies after pregnancy—the rate is only 0.1%. The surrogate contract strongly regulates the rights and custody of children.

Myth 3: Surrogate is only for the wealthy or celebrities

Indeed, we are gradually becoming more familiar with the concept of surrogate, since more and more celebrities get their children through this method. However, it is gradually becoming a more common option for the general public.

The cost of surrogate depends on several factors, such as whether the intended mother is using her own eggs or getting help from an egg donor. Medical care and health insurance are also a huge part of the cost. If parents are worried about money, there are specific loan projects designed for surrogate.

The fee at Joy of Life is both reasonable and affordable, which can help each family get their little angel at a relatively low price.

Myth 4: Surrogates are usually the baby’s biological motherJOL

The majority of surrogates are gestational surrogates, which means that they do not form biological bonds with the fetus they are carrying. A common process is that the embryo is formed through a combination of the intended parents’ egg and sperm through IVF and is then implanted into the surrogate’s uterus.

Myth 5: Women will choose surrogacy to avoid pregnancy

Surrogacy is a relatively expensive method for parents to use to get their kids. Generally speaking, parents turn to surrogacy after multiple other methods failed. It is usually the last resort.

Surrogacy is gradually becoming a popular option for couples with fertility problems. By understanding this industry, the myths can easily be refuted. Joy of Life will also provide professional advice and services to assist every couple to have their own baby.

Surrogate Pregnancy – Truly an amazing humbling experience

By |

Surrogate Pregnancy

“At 4:31 pm I help bring a precious baby boy into the world for a family that otherwise wouldn’t have been able to.

It was truly an amazing humbling experience! I will always remember I am thankful to be blessed with the ability to be able to help a couple start a family. Also even more blessed to have a wife who supported me through out this journey. The wonderful Intended parents at Joy of Life look to me now more than their surrogate.

But now a friend and who also excepted my wife and our daughter some people may only think about the money ( and yes it does help),  but it’s way bigger than that I want to say thank you to my beautiful wife for being so caring, being my cheerleader through labor as well.

And thank you to my Intended parents for also being so supportive and caring to my family and friends for accepting our choice in starting this journey. For the help they have given, I went into labor at 1:30  or 2:00 and delivered at 4:31 pm and pushed for 1.5 hours and it was all worth it and I would do it again.”
